Remove common stains
Most stains come out more easily if you act fast and avoid heat until they are gone.
General rules
- Blot a spill. Rubbing pushes it deeper into the fabric.
- Check the care label first, and test any cleaner on a hidden spot.
- Do not put the item in the dryer until the stain is gone, because heat can set it permanently.
Common stains
- Blood, milk, egg: rinse with cold water, then wash.
- Grease and oil: rub a little dish soap into the spot, wait a few minutes, then wash in the warmest water the fabric allows.
- Red wine and juice: blot, rinse with cold water from the back of the fabric, then wash.
- Mud: let it dry, brush off the dirt, then wash.
When it does not work
Repeat the treatment before drying. For delicate or dry-clean-only items, take them to a professional and tell them what caused the stain.
