Cut your subscription costs

Money3 minute readUpdated October 2026

Small monthly charges are easy to forget, and together they can cost a lot over a year.

Do a 15-minute audit

  1. Open your last two months of bank and card statements.
  2. Highlight every repeating charge: streaming, apps, memberships, cloud storage, software.
  3. Mark each one as use weekly, use sometimes, or forgot about it.
  4. Cancel the last group today.

Keep only what you use

  • Rotate streaming services. Subscribe for a month, watch what you want, then pause.
  • Ask whether an annual plan costs less than twelve months, and only choose it for services you are sure about.
  • Check whether a family or shared plan is allowed by the service's rules.

Stop surprise charges

When you start a free trial, set a calendar reminder for two days before it ends. Cancel right away if you do not want to continue.
