Build a habit that sticks

Health3 minute readUpdated October 2026

Most habits fail because they start too big. A tiny version is easier to repeat, and repetition is what builds a habit.

A simple method

  1. Make it tiny. Choose a two-minute version, such as one push-up, one page or one glass of water.
  2. Attach it to something you already do. For example, after you brush your teeth, you stretch for one minute.
  3. Make it easy to see. Leave the book on your pillow or the water bottle on your desk.
  4. Mark it off. A simple checkmark on a calendar feels rewarding.

When you miss a day

Missing one day does not matter. Try not to miss two in a row. Return the next day without guilt.

Grow slowly

After a couple of weeks, add a little more time. Keep the original tiny version as your fallback on busy days.
